Autobiography








 

My greatest passion is creating. Whether that be through painting, sculpting, drawing, etching, animating, etc, I love the development stage of the artwork. I have never made art that goes exactly as planned from start to finish but this is exactly what I love about creating. I strive to produce artwork that stops the viewer in their tracks, compelling them to pause and engage deeply with my art. 

I was raised in Northern Ireland, a region renowned for its boundless natural beauty. Growing up in an area less industrialized than many others fostered a lifestyle centred around outdoor exploration. Social gatherings often took place in parks, at local beaches, or within forests, rather than in shopping centres, amusement arcades, or restaurants. I believe that immersing oneself in nature is a swift path to nurturing creativity and imagination. This environment profoundly influenced my journey toward becoming an artist.

My favourite artist of all time is Hayao Miyazaki, the director and main artist behind Studio Ghibli. I adore his ability to bring magic to real-world topics through his art. Immersive realism, enchanting, comforting, magical, and  nostalgic. That’s his style. Soft and painterly backgrounds with more simplified yet expressive characters. I also hope to have as much impact on the world in the future as much as he has on my childhood.  

In 2017, my pursuit of art began at North West Regional College, where I dedicated three years to cultivating a diverse range of art workshop skills and exploring various artistic styles. This foundational experience paved the way for me to further my Fine Art education at Manchester Metropolitan University. Here, I obtained my Bachelor of Arts diploma and am on track to complete my Master's degree by the end of this year. 

Utilizing the advanced technology and resources provided by Manchester Metropolitan University, I can refine my artistic abilities while pursuing a diverse range of creative endeavours. My specialization encompasses various forms of art, including painting, poetry, sculpture, photography, and digital media. At present, I am dedicated to my journey of ongoing artistic evolution and exploration, opting not to confine myself to a singular specialization at this time.
